As we sail into the summer season, sincere thanks to every member and volunteer who made last month such a success. April was filled with camaraderie, community, and great times on and off the water. This club continues to be a beacon of tradition and service—none of it happens without your support.
Here’s what we’ve been up to and what’s on the horizon.

A
flotilla of 6 boats made the trip to Dana Point for a weekend of sailing, sun,
and storytelling. Beach bbq’s,
wine tasting, raft-ups, fishing, whale watching, and fine dining at DWYC.
Special thanks to Fleet Captain Walt White for organizing dock reservations and
leading the group safely down the coast and back. Over 50 attended this
fun annual event. April
came to an end with some of our members participating as team members on
various boats in the annual Newport to Ensenada race. On the 30th, the
Dive Team co-hosted our regular general membership meeting. With over 80
in attendance, we were informed and entertained by Dr Jeff Bozanic, one
of the dive industries top leaders, underwater scientists, and
researchers specializing in research below the ice in Antarctica. If you
missed this exciting presentation, you could read more about the dive team’s
good friend at Jeff Bozanic.com.

Our boating season kicked off in style with the traditional Opening Day celebration on May 4th. The Color Guard presented the flags with precision, and Chaplain Hap Wood led a heartfelt blessing of the fleet. The dockside reception was well-attended and full of energy, as the Hawaiian themed lunch featured another stunning ice sculptor by Chef Uli. Thank you to all of those responsible for the planning, set up, execution, and tear down of a most successful event.

May 28 – Dive Team meeting. Diver or not, mark your calendar and join the monthly meeting which takes place on the last Wednesday of the month. Join us for dinner with our presenter on the patio at 4:30pm, followed by a very brief dive team’s meeting making sure to leave plenty of time to hear about the adventures of Raf Jah since his visit with us last year. Currently in Istanbul and headed for the Serengeti he’s found time to pass through our area on his way to points unknown. White tigers, the great migration, the deserts of Namibia and below the surface in the South Pacific, the Red Sea or off the coast of Zanzibar he, along with his wife Cisca, have been there, done that or headed that way. Come find out where he’s headed next and join along if you want to. Please register for this event. There’s no charge, but it really helps us plan for seating and for adequate wait staff when we order off the menu.

Spotlight
So
many great times this past month and especially opening day that we just
celebrated resulted in just too many outstanding volunteers to be able to
mention them all. Our events stand out by the volunteer hours spent
making them happen. Whether it’s stuffing goodie bags, decorating tables,
setting up, tearing down, directing traffic, or checking in our guests you all
did an incredible job. And, it appeared you had fun, made new friends and
certainly got a lot done. The entire club thanks you for all you do.
