Join us for the very 1st Annual ALYC Battle of the Paddle


Entry Fee: $20

Paddle Board Rental: $30 (If renting a paddle board, please complete waiver by clicking here.)


Schedule of Events:

  • 7am - 7:45am - Check-in
  • 8am - Balboa Island Race begins (Long Course)
  • 8:10 - Lido Island Race begins (Short Course)

Post Race Celebration

Will begin after all the paddlers finish.  $5 breakfast burritos, coffee and water will be available.  Prizes will be awarded.


Race Rules:

Start will be in the water adjacent to the American Legion docks.  Courses will circumnavigate either Balboa Island or Lido Island in a counter clockwise direction.  Contact with other participants is to be avoided.  All state and local laws must be adhered to while participating in the race.  A life jacket is required to be worn or attached to the paddleboard and a leash is recommended.  


Volunteers:

We will need volunteers to help on race day.  Please email secretary@alyc.com if you can help with any of the following:

  •  Arrival Check in
  • Finish line set up
  • Water safety observers
  •  Land safety and crowd control
  • Race committee
  •  Food procurement and sales
  • Quartermaster sales
  • Clean up

Participant Waiver for Race Registration:

I know that participating in a paddle board race is potentially hazardous activity, which could cause injury or death. I will not enter and participate unless I am medically able and properly trained, and by my signature, I certify that I am medically able to perform this event, and am in good health, and I am properly trained. I agree to abide by any decision of a race official relative to any aspect of my participation in this event, including the right of any official to deny or suspend my participation for any reason whatsoever. I attest that I have read the rules of the race and agree to abide by them. I assume all risks associated with running in this event, including but not limited to: falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather, including high heat and/or humidity, traffic and the conditions of the water, all such risks being known and appreciated by me.


Having read this waiver and knowing these facts and in consideration of your accepting my entry, I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the American Legion Yacht Club, the American Legion Post 291, the city of Newport Beach, and all event sponsors, their representatives and successors from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in this event, even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons named in this waiver. 


I grant permission to all of the foregoing to use my photographs, motion pictures, recordings or any other record of this event for any legitimate purpose.


You will be able to acknowledge the waiver on the registration page.
